As shopping moves to the Internet and cash is less and less, children's retailer CAMP has launched an e-commerce platform to digitally capture the joy of childhood allowances.

Launched in December 2018, CAMP is a popular RIS retail start-up in 2020. It operates five retail locations in New York, Texas and Connecticut and provides services to families through its digital platform. Now CAMP has launched the Present Shop, which claims to be the "first" e-commerce platform where kids can safely shop online.

CAMP CEO Ben Kaufman said that adults used to give children some money to "walk around" to treat themselves, but now, children cannot use cash online, and there are few real-world stores that can help children. The Present Shop is mainly for children aged 3-12 who want to buy gifts for themselves or for others, such as parents, teachers or friends. Present Shop complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), allowing children to understand the value of their choices.

Here’s how it works: Parents or guardians visit camp.com/present to select events, budget, shipping, and payment information. Children will receive a unique one-time code to enter the gift shop and start shopping.

Instead of working like gift cards, parents may still need to explain to young children how much money they have left, or how much two or more items add up, and the parents’ budget is converted into digital “coins”. The children enter a game-like interface that allows them to choose gifts until they run out of coins.

CAMP’s animated mascot, Scout, guides children through the shopping experience through a series of visual and audio prompts. For the purchase of gifts, children can also design a greeting card, print it and pack it in a customized gift box, and then ship it directly to the recipient.

The new e-commerce platform provides children with a modern shopping experience, while also allowing parents to save time and money.
